Hello from Raleigh!

My husband will tell you that I absolutely do not like being touched when it’s bedtime. I’ve never been much of a cuddler, but on the occasion we cuddle before bed it’s usually less than a five minute experience. And then, I roll over onto my stomach to sleep and I absolutely do not want to be touched while I’m trying to fall asleep. For some reason, I find it distracting to the point that it keeps me awake.

That said, I’ve adapted to having Rocco in the bed. For one thing, there’s no avoiding snuggles with a pug. They’re hard-wired for it. But also, if we didn’t let him in the bed he’d whine all night or hurt himself trying to jump up onto bed. So I make an exception for him but even that is trying some nights.

Right now, I’m staying at a Courtyard by Marriott in Raleigh, NC. I have been so, so excited about having a bed to myself all weekend! The luxury of being able to sprawl out in any direction! The magnificence of no dog or husband to block my path as I move constantly all night long! The sheer joy of clean sheets and a bed that was made ready just for me to enjoy!

My room at the Courtyard. I totally messed the bed up first thing,
because who doesn’t like a nap?

But as I got into bed last night, it was cold and wouldn’t you know that the very first thing I thought was, “Where’s Jose and Rocco when you need them to stay warm?”

Go figure.

At any rate, it dawned on me that I really need to incorporate more of hotel life in my own home. Think about it: nearly everyone enjoys a hotel stay. The rooms are usually comfortable, well-coordinated, and contain just about every basic you could need. Why shouldn’t my own rooms at home be like this?

It seems pretty easy, on the surface. A bed with coordinating headboard, nightstands, and dresser. Maybe a writing desk. Throw in a neutral armchair and you’re pretty much set except for some lamps and a few pieces of art. I feel I could totally make that work in a guest room – but not my own bedroom. We just have too much… stuff.

More than anything, though, getting a new house with four times the closet space would help immensely. Since it isn’t reasonable to expect that right away, I’m going to research organization ideas.

I’ll start on that tomorrow. Today, I’m playing with my friends from the Triangle Pride Band. It’s their very first symphonic band concert and it’s so much fun to drive into town and just play music for the fun of it. If you’re in the Raleigh area, you absolutely must check them out!

TPB has awesome artwork, too.

One last thing – I’ve lost 3 lbs! It’s not much, I know, but it’s a start on the path back to a healthy weight. 🙂

That’s all for now – until next time…
