All in all, a pretty good day today. Work went well (though slowly, as Fridays sometimes seem to do). I’m working on training a new employee who’s taking over a hefty portion of my duties. Since I’m all about efficiency, I do things differently than most of my coworkers would, so I’ve built quite a few Access databases over the years that have served me well.
The problem is that I designed them for me, based on my knowledge of Access, and not on how easily they can be used by others. She’s learning quickly, though, and next week our focus is on learning the third-party scheduling software. I only use it in case the scheduling supervisor is out of the office, but I don’t mind training her on it since she’ll be taking over scheduling and we can focus on it without a lot of distractions.
The only other achievement I’ve accomplished today was to upload some of the flyers I’ve designed over the years for Charlotte Pride Band.
I don’t consider myself a graphic designer, though I know enough to put together some decent materials. It’s even occasionally fun! That said, I do enjoy the challenge of putting together a compelling graphic with awesome copy to achieve whatever goal I’m working toward – so hopefully some of that comes through. Oh, and if you’re in the Boston area, hire me! Or, heck, even if you’re not in the Boston area, I can do a lot of marketing work remotely!
I also miss Jose. Not because I’m all mushy and stuff (heaven forbid!), but because I’m bored. Before you think I’m insensitive, please know that he’d expect me to say that.
Now, if you’ll excuse me… the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance is on. Love y’all, but also love to watch some dancing!
